I've had type 1 diabetes for 21 years and am interested in following some threads so that I can share, find information, and ask questions. I am retired from the English faculty of a Virginia university and have 2 grown daughters. I'm happy to say my four grandchildren are beautifully healthy, but I'm sad to say that one of my daughters also has type 1. We both have some difficulties, but also find ourselves sharing, laughing and cussing out this disease

Thanks for letting me post a few things before I decide to join!

Hi, Johanna. I'm sorry to hear that you and your daughter are having some problems. I'm type 2, and don't know much about type 1, but have read enough posts by 1's to know that most of them eat low carb, high fat so they won't have to use as much insulin, which helps keep their bg at a more even level and avoid big swings from high to low.

By reading through the threads, I hope you are finding the answers you are looking for. If not, be sure to ask. There are a lot of very knowledgeable folks here on a wide variety of subjects.

Welcome aboard.

Hi Johanna, welcome to the forum.

Your '...sharing, laughing and cussing out this disease' fits well with the ethos around here.

Hope you'll stick around and visit often.

Hello Johanna, welcome! I am sure that you and your daughter look after each other, and give each other much support. I have been type 1 for 68 years, and have good diabetes health. If we type 1 diabetics take good care of ourselves, we can have long healthy lives.

Ask all the questions you want, we want to help.
