Default Hello from Bangalore

I have diabetes type 2 since 2006. Currently I take

Gemer 2 Forte (1-0-1) + Voglibose 0.2 (1-0-1) + lipicure 10mg (0-0-1).

I have also plan my meals.

Love to hear from friends if they have any experience with these drugs especially benefits and side effects like lesser immunity or any other side effect. Does switching to insulin is a better idea to avoid the side effects of drugs.

Any friends in Bangalore who can refer a good diabetologist and a diabetes centre which has comprehensive care for diabetics.

It would be good to know if there is any diabetes club in Bangalore which regularly meets up. Need some motivation from fellow diabetics to continue my fight against it.

Hi Anirban,

From your post, you are on three diabetic drugs and one statin drug. After taking all three diabetic drugs is your BS level under control? First one being combination ( glimepiride and metformin). Glimepiride in the long run, desensitizes beta cells or they may die. Voglibose being new drug it's side effects are not fully known.
Do you have high cholesterol levels or CHD? as you are on statin drug. Statin are effective only for those who already have CHD.
Cholesterol is not the cause of CHD or CVD.
Insulin for diabetics is always good option against bunch of drugs.
What about your diet? It is the most important factor for diabetic. Are you on LCHF diet?

Hello, Anirban - I suspect you'll get better support just staying with us here on the forum than hoping to find face-to-face diabetic friends. The level of knowledge & wisdom about controlling diabetes leaves a lot to be desired in most parts of the real world, and even professional diabetologists often prescribe dangerous drugs - such as the statin drug and the glimepiride you've been given. And that isn't even to mention the dietitians & diabetes educators, who will doubtless advise you to eat far more carbohydrate than is healthy.

These professionals won't be doing the heavy lifting anyhow - you need to take control of your own management and adopt lifestyle changes in order to lower your blood sugar and regain your health. Look into the LCHF way-of-eating, and study up at BloodSugar101. These two sites will give you more information than you'll ever get from the doctors. You will also need a glucose meter, and with it you'll need to learn to eat to your meter.

Good luck and visit us often.

Hi Anirban ... LCHF is worth trying, although I know it's not always easy in your part of India. I recently spent a week in Chennai, and it was the most difficult week I've had, food choice-wise, since I started eating low carb. I have a much easier time eating in Delhi or Mumbai.

Stick around - this forum is a great support group, even if you don't find someone in Bangalore in particular!
