I think there's a book by Gretchen Becker called The First Year —Type 2 Diabetes, that might explain a lot of things for you too.

So yes, here you are, and I'm glad to meet you. None of us wanted to join this diabetes "club", but since we're here, it's good to join the forum & make the best of it. Thank you for joining us!
I started that list of questions, and have gotten to the point where
I'm kinda bogged down with all these acronyms and numbers and percentages. I decided to look for a sort of reference guide and came up with 'Diabetes and You'. Got it this week and I've been lugging it around in my biking backpack (a bit too big for my waistbag) on the way to/from the family farm (about 25 minutes from the house.) Pretty nice for me, since I can't be online almost half the time I'm awake and biking or supervising work. Thanks for the heads' up on that title, Shanny, I'll look that one up too while I'm online now.

So...yea my doc's a general practitioner, and he admitted he wasn't all that familiar with the details of the disease, after I started asking about carbs I'll have to ask him to refer me to an endo this Friday when we start this round of tests.

Hi there and welcome! I would definitely ask for that referral to an endocrinologist. Do you know what your blood sugar was when they checked it? It is going to important also to know what type of diabetic you are. Some of the diet principles are going to be the same for both types, but the treatment is going to be different depending on your type. One thing that is going to be key is to start paying attention to the carb content in different foods. You are going to need this information no matter what type you are. Good luck and keep asking questions!
