Default Let me introduce myself

Hello I a was found to be a diabetic type 1 in april this year at age 27 a month before my 28 aniversary, glycemia 531.
I am having rapid insulin before breakfest and lunch in a doze of 2 or 4 units depending my glycemia. Before supper I am doing a mixt insulin with 4 units. My C-peptide is somewhere around 1.1 or 1.2 for a scale of 0.9-4.4 considered a normal interval .I also made my anticorps anti Langerhans islets test or something like this and the values are ok.My 3 months glycemia index is in range[5.5-6] now but when I was found it was around 14

Why do you want to know? Are you a student doing research?

Not i am tryng to do a survey to observ for myself what is the common predictor for diabetes type 1. I have some common predictors that I strongly think are important to the installation of type 1.

So, what do you think may be a cause of diabetes? I've researched this topic a bit; a lot just points to genetics, others to the nutrition unique to society, still something very interesting is a study done in Norway on Vitamin D levels of mothers and infants. But, whatever the cause, it's a done deal now. Managing this thing is at the forefront of my mind. So far, diagnosed at a 10.6 or 10.7 (can't remember which) with a fasting blood sugar of 316, I've been able to get it below 5 with fastings well under 100 with the Very Low Carb, High Fat Diet. I really do believe it has saved my life. How are you managing your diabetes?

We do not do surveys here. But many of us will have thought about it and will gladly discuss this thinking.

I have not been tested but my BG response is consistent with T2 insulin resistant.

I find the vitamin D link fascinating. In part because I have an, apparently hereditary, inability to produce D even though I spend many hours working in the sun. If I do not supplement D I go too low very quickly. As do several of my siblings and my mother.

At this point I am most interested in AGEs and cellular/mitochondrial health. If you run searchs on this forum for 'autopaghy' and 'Methylglyoxal' you will see several evocative discussions we have had.

I wonder if there is a genetic flaw that leaves our cells kludged up and functioning poorly. I fear the foods and exercise levels in many countries may result in unhealthy cells and the cause may be life style...which could mean a whole of the people who are insulin resistant today may move into diabetic territory sometime in the future.

Ultimately, I do believe if the cause if diabetes is ever isolated...it will not be 'isolated'. Rather there will be multiple causes that all lead to a common symptomalogy of BG out of control and - in some cases - pancreatic beta cells unproductive or dying.

BTW, congratulations on moving from HbA1c of 14 into the 5% Club! That is very good news, I celebrate this. Please tell us more about how you have made this great change.

Oh, an example of what I mean by multiple causes would be autoimmune response and/or disease attacking beta cells.

Also, I suspect a malfunction in some other part of the endocrine system could have repercussions on insulin production and/or BG control mechanisms.

I was diagnosed with Stein-Leventhal syndrome, despite being 5'5" and weighing about 95 lbs and today listened to a endo on the radio and that was amazing. It's now called PCOS and I had 5 times the risk of diabetes. I guess I would have been called a really lean diabetic!
