Exclamation Running out of insulin (!)

So, I'm on my last Novolog pen and the soonest I can refill is this Thursday and I have no idea what time...If I run out of insulin before then what should I do? Would I last a day or two without insulin and then immediately treating the hyper when I get more? Any advice? I'm really concerned about this

If it's not a rude question, why are you running out?

I would greatly reduce carb intake so that less insulin is needed. I would not chance going hyper and potentially DKA and would go to a hospital Walmart or somewhere else that sells a non-prescription bolus insulin.

Your doctor will not renew before Thursday??? That sounds insane for treating a type 1.

I would go to your doctor, explain the situation. They usually have samples to give out to those in that situation.

There is insulin available at Walmart that is very inexpensive, and I do not require a prescription. It would not be the kind of insulin you normally use, but it would keep your blood sugar from going very high, until your next refill. See the link below:

I would have my doctor call Walmart or CVS and put in a prescription for the insulin you need. Cost is irrelevant, if you are at risk!

If your dealing with insurance, getting insulin could be hard with or without a prescription. Mine said I had gotten a 37 day supply when insulin prescriptions are written for 28 days. I still haven't gotten my script filled since April because I didn't want to deal with it. My CDE gave me 2 vials and that keeps me busy for awhile.

The drug companies give vials of insulin to doctors to give to their patients without insurance and people who can't afford it.

I don't know if the OP is around, but I certainly would not try to go without insulin, so asking a doctor or CDE may be your best option.
