Default Wife of newly diagnosed type 1.5

Hi! Just found this forum and it seems like a great place to get some advice and ideas. My husband was recently diagnosed with type 1.5 so we are just trying to figure everything out, kind of came out of no where... He was misdiagnosed as type 2 for a few weeks, but luckily got it cleared up quickly and much better control now. Looking into pumps, classes, etc. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Looks for books by Dr. Bernstein - Diabetes Solution; Gary Scheiner - Think Like a Pancreas; John Walsh - Pumping Insulin

We think a lot of this misdiagnosis could be greatly reduced by mandatory running of some specific tests to determine type and not work on assumptions based on age or appearance. It won't catch all but would catch most.

Welcome to the forum

This is a great place for help and support for us diabetics. One of the things that most of us have found to be key in controlling blood glucose (BG)s diet. Even if one is on insulin, greatly reducing the foods that cause a rise in BG in the first place - carbohydrates - can make controlling BG so much easier, and for an insulin user, much safer.

I would like to extend an invitation to your husband to join us.
