Default Off to a good start

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 2 months ago. I admittedly did a google search for diabetes forums which is how I got here. The doctor prescribed Metformin and Lipitor. After reading this forum and watching some of the recommended videos I decided to forgo the meds and try the diet and exercise approach. I just got my test results back yesterday. Here are some of the numbers that I was concerned about.

2 months ago now

A1C 8.3 5.7
GLUCOSE 178 89
CHOLESTEROL 197 183
ALT/SGPT 167 53
AST/SGOT 71 20

My doctor was understandably impressed.

Welcome Steven, and kudos for you for taking control of your diabetes. Your new numbers are impressive - especially since it's only been a couple months for you on your new lifestyle.

Let's hope your doctor is so impressed that he would want to recommend this to other diabetic patients of his.

I am also controlling my BG with diet only. It's been over 6 years now and I've not yet needed any meds, for which I am thankful.

That is awesome Steven. I should have tried LCHF before I started taking meds. I was so overwhelmed with my diagnosis. My numbers were a lot higher than yours, so I don't know if my numbers would have been as impressive. My fasting BG is seldom under 100, but it's usually under 120 unless I ate something after 9:00 pm.

Congrats again. I hope you continue to post. Your numbers give the rest of us hope.

Hi StevenC. You are off to a good start.

I wouldn't put much worry on the total cholesterol if my trig/hdl ratio is less than 2.0. I would definitely try to forego the meds, just keep in mind that controlling your BG will eliminate a lot of problems. Metformin and insulin would be my choices, if it comes to down to needing help in addition to diet and exercise.
