Default HI ~ I'm a new member

Greetings from sunny Arizona! I am over 70, male and have had Type 1 diabetes since 1969. I have worn an insulin pump since 2001.

I used to use a CGM from Medtronic until they stopped making the one that worked with my Medtronic pump.

I am very hypoglycemic unaware after so many years as a diabetic. I also have lots of problems with neuropathy. I seen so many steps forward in diabetic treatment since 1969. When I started there were no glucose meters; just urine tests for home use. For you young people ........... just be thankful for glucose meters.

I will be starting on a Dexcom CGM next week and am really looking forward to it!

Welcome Cwest.

Seems you are an "oldtimer" and I'm sure you have a wealth of experience to share with the "young folks". We're glad you joined us.

I'm happy for you that you're getting a new CGM soon.

Hi, Cwest, and welcome to the forum. I've heard a lot about the CGM's but have never used one. Are they easy to use?

As I stated in my first post, I had used the Medtronic CGM ......... actually for a few years. I am very very Hypoglycemic Unaware after so many years as a diabetic. So for me it was literally a life saver!! Then even tho I was paying for them myself because Medicare did not cover any CGM at the time, Medtronic had come up with a new pump that works only with its own new CGM. It would not work with my pump. I had only had that pump for a year or two, Medicare would not get me the newer pump.

There is a learning curve with the CGM but it was doable and lifesaving for me. My Dexcom CGM shipment is on the FEDEX truck as we speak to be delivered today!!
