Default MY journey begins

Just got diagnosed 27 September with diabetes. BG 295 A1C 13.8 Metformin 500mg 2X.
I am also a proud owner of a new stent as 13 Oct, I only bring this up because on 12 Oct my BG was 98. Had to stop the metformin for a couple days because of the dye BG now in the 170's.
Little frustrating, but feeling blessed because I do get to start over.
Already doing eat to your meter bananas are bad for me, 3 hours before BG drop.
This for all the info

Hello, Paul, and welcome to the forums. People with a lot more knowledge than I have will be around soon to give you more information.

Hi Pauley, welcome to the forum.

I think diabetes and heart diseases kind of go hand in hand. I think as you do more personal research you'll find it's the carbs and not the natural fats that plays the bigger contributor to both.

Congrats on being proactive and eating to your meter. Now to put that meter to good use in managing your BG. I think will help guide you through some some good food choices. There are recipe, meal, and snack threads here on the forum too.

Hi Pauley

Welcome to the forum. This is a great place to get help and support for your new journey. You're in good company here with other diabetics who are pro-active in their diabetes management.

We like to recommend Blood Sugar 101 to new folks. The author, Jenny Ruhl, has compiled a most comprehensive body of knowledge, all backed by research which she cites and give links to. A few hours spent there is well worth it.

It's good you are using your meter and testing. It is a real eye-opener, isn't it? And, for sure, bananas are not the friend of diabetics. There are many really good foods that one CAN eat, though. You might find some good menu ideas in the meal threads on the Diet and Nutrition section on our forum.
