Default mommakiwi

Hello every one,
I am Mommakiwi, I am a 49 yo and I have been diabetic since 2008.
I became diabetic after a severe illness in which my liver and kidneys were expected to fail . However, after 5 days in ICU i was sent home to recover.
My liver and kidneys are fine but then I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.... and shortly after that I was found to have breast cancer.
I have had a lumpectomy, and radiation and I am WELL and clear of cancer for 3.5 yrs now.

My treatment is Metformin 4 x 500mg as well as the endocrine treatment Tamoxifen for the cancer
my tests are coming in at about 7 on the hba1c
and I test morning and evening and levels vary from 5 to 7.5 depending on the time of day and my levels of activity.
I have a problem with eating nuts and some legumes any advice on diet that can accommodate the nut allergy would be great

Look up the diet and nutrition section. You will find lots of helpful tips & ideas there.

Most of us test first thing in the morning, then 1 and 2 hours after meals. Testing 1 hr. after usually shows how high the food we ate for that meal has taken our bg, and we hope when we test at 2 hours after that our bg has already started going back down. Using this method, if our bg tests too high after eating, we can pinpoint the carby food that caused our bg to spike and eleminate it from our diet. Testing at other times of the day is called random testing and doesn't really give us much valuable information.

We're glad you joined us. We usually advise our newbies to do some reading at Blood Sugar 101 which can be quite an eye-opener when it comes to diabetes. Welcome aboard.
