Welcome from another oldish guy. I'm 60.

I've been doing some strength training for the past few months......mostly deadlifts, squats, benchpress, military press, dips, pullups and some Ab work. I also do some cardio, like bike riding, and elliptical machine. I've actually gained some weight but my blood sugar readings have greatly improved. Of course I've modified my diet a lot too.

Welcome to the forum........

Well, I just got my results back today from my first Dr's appointment since I joined this forum(Feb.). I've put my new lab results in my signature, and I've lost just over 10 lbs.. I'm very appreciative of all the help and encouragement I get here, even when I am just lurking! I'm looking forward to learning more, doing better, and eventually contributing to this forum.

Not helpful or on topic, but I couldn't help but laugh at the combination of topic title and nick name of topic starter.

I haven't had any cake, candy, pie or ice cream since my dx. I've replaced that stuff with fruit smoothies. I use frozen berries, kale, water (no added sugars) and fill up the blender. It's delicious and doesn't spike my BG. If I want cake, I eat an Atkins bar.

So T Dynamo....you test your blood sugar at 1hr. and 2 hr. following your first sip of these smoothies? If so could you share your recipe for smoothies with us?

I have found I can generally eat three strawberries or maybe a quarter of a cup of blueberries, anything over that and I see a spike beyond my target of 120 - 14!

Hi, you wrote your target is 120 - 14! I am not sure what your target is?

I seem to be able to handle a lot of fruits and carbs (brown rice, rye bread etc). I ate a plate (a meal size) of fruit that hurt my belly (LOL). To include; 1 banana, grapes, cantaloupe, strawberries, kiwi, blueberries, pineapple, cherries and my 1 hr was 133 and my 2 hr was 110.

My smoothie is a handful of kale, 16/oz of water, and I fill the blender up to the top with frozen fruit. I sometimes drink 48/oz in a course of a few hours. My BG is under 140 at 1/hr depending the fruit.

Yesterday I used 4 oranges, 10 kiwi, some blueberries and 16/oz of water. I drank 32/oz pretty quick and my BG at 1/hr was 141 and my 2/hr was 106.

T-Dynamo

as I mentioned in your introduction, its great this is working for you but will not work for the VAST VAST VAST population of diabetics. In fact, you are the first person I have heard with the conditions you mention that can do this.

consider yourself EXTREMELY lucky... as in winning the lottery lucky because this just doesnt normally happen
