Talking Hi from Vikki

I am delighted to find this Forum as it appears to refer to many concerns. I have had Diabetes 2 for almost 10 years. Initially I took little notice of the situation until I realized the dangers. I am on Medication. Started on Metformin and changed last year to Jardianet. I was also placed on Blood Pressure and Cholesterol meds. I am currently on the Keto Diet (LCHF) which is tremendous for lowering the Blood Sugars.
HOWEVER, I have been researching substantially lately and I believe that it is possble to reverse the Diabetes and remove all medications by replacing with natural alternatives. I look forward to reading the Forum and adding my comments. Thanks for having me

Welcome to the forum, Vikki!

There are some "natural" substances which studies indicate have a positive effect on blood glucose levels. Members here have tried some of them, with mixed success. Most of those threads are in the "Treatment" forum; I'd recommend checking them out.

But I'll take this opportunity to note two things:
- I put the word natural in quotation marks because "natural" does not necessarily mean "safe". Uranium isotopes occur in nature but they're still quite dangerous. "Natural" substances still can cause side effects and/or harm if used improperly.
- Similarly, the concept of "reversing" diabetes requires definition. Many of us don't believe Type 2 diabetes can be reversed by diet and medication or supplements. Symptoms and long-term damage can be minimized -- but if you stopped watching your carbohydrate intake and skipped the meds/insulin/supplements, your blood glucose levels most likely would be back where they were when you were diagnosed.

So, semantics aside , I think you'll find lots of information here -- and lots of support as well. Please look around, ask questions, and relate your experiences.

One of my friends at work did exactly that. He was about 50 pounds over weight - suddenly he started losing weight like crazy and was complaining about having to get up three or four times a night to go to the washroom. I told him to get his BGs tested - as did several other people. So he did and eventually he was diagnosed with Type 2.

Now his BGs are stabilized, no meds because his carb intake is very low and he also fasts a lot eating only a fraction of what he used to do. He also got some of his weight back that he had lost from untreated diabetes and looks very healthy.

Quite impressive - his biggest motivator was being a dad to three young kids - that will certainly help in the motivation department. Hopefully he will be able to sustain his current level of health.
