Default Hello, Type 2 in California

I have Type 2 diabetes and live in California. My name is Robin, I am 69 and assume I have had diabetes for longer then I realized. I was finally diagnosed while having a triple bypass without realizing I had heart disease because I had symptoms but thought I had no time since my husband was terminally ill and I was his caretaker. I had it before that but apparently my BG had not gotten high enough to see a Dr. Even after a heart attack 3 years ago I was not the sickest so only took partial control. When he died 1.5 years ago I looked around and I had only me to take care of. My A1C was 6.7 after going to a paleo diet. He cardiologist said that was ok even though plaque and small artery disease caused the triple bypass. I have now gone from a paleo diet to being a vegan. I have lost 140 lbs and have a few left to high school weight. My A1C is now 5.1 and I would like to get it down to 5 or less. I came here with a question about miracle noodles and found the answer and decided to join. Thanks for reading. Sorry for lack of punctuation.

Welcome to the forum, Robin! I’m sorry your life path has been so rocky. But congratulations on taking control of your diabetes!

I’m interested in how you manage your diabetes on a vegan diet. Can you tell us more? (That might even be a good great starter in the Diet and Nutrition sub-forum.)

Hi Robin, welcome. I had a quad bypass 3 years ago. I've managed pretty well on a keto diet. Sounds like your BG is well under control. Look forward to hearing more.
