Question Infusion set issue

Hi, Type 1 diabetic for 40+ years and am working on my third pump. Increasingly I am having problems with the first 12-16 hours after an infusion change (and they happen every three days)! I have tried changing the type of cannula (as I am told by CDE's that this is the issue). I have also tried different and amazing sites! (to no effect) and I have tried different times of the day. Eg: last change I timed for after breakfast. So gave myself the bolus for breakfast (BG 6.8) on the old set, then filled the cannula for the new set and then changed the reservoir. Three hours later BG 13 so corrected with an injection (to deal with the 13) then three hours later still over 13 so corrected with an injection followed by a carb free (or almost) lunch. Three hours later still over 13 so gave my self a correction dose through the guessed it followed an hour or so later by a LOW! The insulin pump is now working fine. On the first day I usually use approximately 15% more insulin in correction doses. I am told this experience is not "uncommon" but I have yet to find anyone else experiencing pump therapy that is effectively not operational for 16-20% of the time. Any ideas? I am OK but frustrated with the every third day drama! Helen

helen, welcome to this forum!

I'm afraid I'm of no help because I have no experience with a pump beyond knowing people use them -- and use them successfully. However, we have several members here who do use pumps. I hope they come by to say 'hello' and to help you address this issue.

Now with less sugar!
