Default New type 1.5

Good morning! My name is Jerry, and I am a new type 1 diabetic. I was diagnosed 26 February of this year when I was admitted to the ICU with an 850 blood glucose level. The doctors explained I went full dka, with the vomiting of jet black multiple times overnight and very delirious symptoms. I just wanted to sleep. Unfortunately I was on a business trip and was in a hotel by myself when this all occurred. Luckily I text my wife every morning before I leave for work, when I didn't that morning she knew I've been feeling ill, and she knew something was terribly wrong. She proceeded to call me multiple times on my cell phone until I woke. My slurred speech an out-of-body experience alerted us that something had gone terribly awry. Luckily my training for my job told me to get to a public place where I was able to find help in the form of an ambulance right and 5 days in the hospital. I know I'm very fortunate and settling in to the idea of having this diagnosis. I'm currently on lantus, metformin, and humalog. I had been on a freedom lite sensor since March but recently upgraded to a Libre continuous 14-day sensor. Today is day one on that sensor and was disappointed that my diabetes M app for my Android won't support the 14-day Libre sensors. Curious what kind of Android apps people are using for the Libre system. I really like the diabetes m app I am not tied to it. I like the idea of having a one-stop-shop app attract Google fit fatsecret runtastic etc. Looking forward two conversations learning how other type ones are faring and adapting to my new way of life with like-minded people. Thank you

Welcome to the forum, Jerry! Looks like you took a bumpy road to get here but I'm glad you're here. There's a lot of information and support here. I hope the people using Libres will fill you in on the apps they use.

I'm a Type 2 myself but I'm curious why you listed yourself as a Type 1.5 in your profile and a Type 1 in your post. Were you Type 2 before the dka episode?

Nope I was brand new to diabetes when diagnosed. Never had an issue with blood sugar in my annual blood work last June showed nothing alarming. My endocrinologist is treating me like a type 1, but the onset looks more like a type 1.5 from my understanding as I am 35 years old

Thanks for the info, Jerry. I also got a little more information that clarified my understanding of Type 1.5. Important to know...

Hi AF Izzy, just want to welcome you to the forum. I'm Type 2, only on metformin, and stick my finger multiple times a day, so no hands on knowledge about CGMs from me. I am always curious about anything diabetes related though, so I'll watch with interest.
