Smile Hey Y'all!

Hey y'all! I'm 44 years old and was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2005. My first experience with this was when I was pregnant with my son. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and had to take insulin shots during my pregnancy. Three months after delivering my son, I received the Type 2 diagnosis.

I am also a heart patient. I had bypass surgery in 2016 when I was 42.

My a1C has been high (9.1) the last two times I have been tested and I am really scared of what the future holds if I don't get a grip on this. I am here to learn.

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

You'll find good information and lots of support here. The goal for us all is to gain good control of our diabetes. You find many success stories here - read some of the other intro threads.

A really good place to increase your knowledge about diabetes, and how to treat it, is at www.bloodsugar101.com. It is well worth the read. The article, "How to Lower Your Blood Sugar" (under the first category of All About Blood Sugar) describes a testing method that many of us here use.

Hi genxreader, welcome to the forum.

I had quad bypass surgery in 2015, the 29th of this month. My main goal is to keep my BG under control. Control to me is under 140 mg/dL at all times. I eat less than 30 grams of carbs per day to do that. My thoughts are that if I control my diabetes, it pretty much takes care of everything else.

As VeeJay said, lots of info on the forum and on BloodSugar 101. There will be lots of questions you will have, and somebody here will probably be able to answer it for you. There is a lot of experiences, good and bad, that members of this forum don't mind sharing.

Think I've had this since 2003. Told I was Type 2 lean on 2/13/12.
