Do anyone here find that having dinner too big, Or do you have to finnish the plate and insist on a sweet as well.
Type 1's have to see that our bolus is covered so that we don't get a low. I know that I do the bolus coverage so the low won't happen. As this is why i'm fat!!!

Hey Peter: :)

I will admit that I eat less than normal amounts. But because of this I always take less Insulin. Which is Good. If I feel near full, then I say,"That's enough".

I also eat slow so my that the food can be digested and my brain can tell me when I am near full. If a Person eats fast, they eat the whole thing and then some so it hasn't time to digest the food enough so that your brain can't tell you soon enough that the stomach is full.

I do not over-eat since it stretches the stomach and eventually it requires a lot more food to "keep the stomach Happy". This usually makes People gain weight and need more Insulin. There are of course other reasons why some People gain weight. Some are because of other medical reasons.

I usually do not eat desserts either unless I crave 1 scoop of ice cream or 2 donut holes or a slice of pumpkin pie like at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Your
not supposed to feed the bolus Peter.

A Diabetic should eat a moderate amount of food and bolus for the food that they eat. Not take a Big bolus of Insulin and then eat a lot of food to cover the bolus. Covering the bolus, will make a Diabetic become resistant to Insulin, if they weren't already and gain weight.

I do realize that Bad habits are Very hard to quit but if someone tries their Best every so often, chances are Good that they will break the Bad habit. They have to use every bit of strength in their being to do this. It is worth their Life and fewer complications. Believe me...I know. ;)

Oh I agree 100% with you Terrie! I determine what I want to eat and keep the number of carbs where I want it to be. Then I bolus the appropriate amount of fast actin insulin for that number of carbs. That keeps me from gaining weight. I restrict muself to a max of 150 carbs per day and that enables me to use less insulin. Less insulin means less likelihood of weight gain. That is what works well for me.

Hey folks, I can understand as we look at carbs and love our carbs we eat too much as what Terrie says that to eat small.
Soon I hope to get into the D.A.F.N.E. course that will tell me what is carb and what's not and calorie is king as I would like to know is why? And I am not going to turn into a vegetarian and that's for shure!! :D :p

Hi Peter: :D

You're Funny. :D Always Good to see you.

I thought that you knew about carb-counting before you came here but were just being a bit...neglectful sometimes. You don't have to be a vegetarian. Meats are certainly allowed and I know that you love your meats. Meats do put up your sugars a bit also if you eat too much. Almost everything that we eat is converted into sugars. Sad really. But as you know eating less causes us less blood sugar problems.

You mean you haven't been to a D.A.F.N.E. class yet? WOW! Are you at least enrolled yet? That will help you a lot. I think someone from there will have to speak to you one-on-one to help you. Your Dr. and Dietician should have already taught you about your special Insulin to carb ratio. It's quite individual to each Person.

You most likely are Insulin-resistant. But if you eat less and exercise more then you'll lose some weight which will bring your Insulin doseage and sugars down some also. Yes, I know that you enjoy your food.

People are supposed to eat about 45-55 carb per each meal. Then have their 2 snacks in between. I have to leave now but I'll write you up a days meal as an example, later.

Calories are not king. That's a web site that People go to so they can check their calorie intake. Sorry for preaching Peter. Have a Good Day!!

Hi Peter: :D

Thank you Terrie, You are so welcoming and happy soul and there should be more of you. ;)

I thought that you knew about carb-counting before you came here but were just being a bit...neglectful sometimes.
Yeah well we all learn Terrie, And it's about time I should shackle off the ice and grow a six pack. *Chuckle*

Yes Terrie, I will have to learn understand food all over again. :( I am not crying just yet but out of this would mean better food and great cooking. :)

You mean you haven't been to a D.A.F.N.E. class yet? WOW! Are you at least enrolled yet? That will help you a lot.
NO!! :( However I will get to see the endo this Tuesday as that would be your Monday night and I hope that I will get an enrollment then. Well at least it wouldn't be like the bad old days of the 1970's where you have restrictions on what food is on the forbidden list as honey, Mars Bars or any chocolate and many others. ;)
I think someone from there will have to speak to you one-on-one to help you. Your Dr. and Dietician should have already taught you about your special Insulin to carb ratio. It's quite individual to each Person.
Yes!!, I would have to know what my Insulin : Carbohydrate ratio that would help as this will stop covering the insulin as we all know that the more insulin that we take the more we have to eat so that we don't fall low. :(
You most likely are Insulin-resistant. But if you eat less and exercise more then you'll lose some weight which will bring your Insulin doseage and sugars down some also. Yes, I know that you enjoy your food.
I think that you are quite right there Terrie, Being as F A T as I am, Insulin resistance is a problem but the exercise is better than a bolus in some cases and as with all physical activity to take some jelly beans to prop up yourself if low.

People are supposed to eat about 45-55 carb per each meal. Then have their 2 snacks in between. I have to leave now but I'll write you up a days meal as an example, later.
Thanks Terrie, That would give me some idea to what to do.

Post endo appointment

Well I have been happy with the results and I can keep the BG to a good level. So I get a 5.9MMOL/L A1C!!! and that's great news. :D The cholesterol is the other way and I am against taking a statian Terrie. :(

The other good news is that I have enrolled in the D.A.F.N.E. course and that starts in November and I have a blood test to end all tests so that they can explain to me what I should do and to purchase a digital scales with an 0 function so that you can put a bowl and just measure the contents and $50AUS for the course and a book on GI values. so a great step towards better health and loose the weight.

A1c is a percentage, no units are involved. This makes it the same thing in all parts of the world.

I limit my carbohydrates to an average of 80 a day. This has served me well, I lost 35 lbs over 8 months and have kept it off for another year, so far.
