Hi, My name is May and I am a diabetic. hehehe I start like this because apperently (FYI I am a poor speller) I was in denile for years. A couple of days before my b-day last Sept (08) Iwent in for a full physical and foud out that I was a (T2) diabetis with and A1C @ around 13. For years I thought that unquenchable thirst was great, it meant I was healthy and a good water drinker (2 gallons+ a day), my exhaustion just meant that I was lazy, and Turning 30 must mean I need glasses because my eyes were just not what they used to be. In fact on several occasion over the past few years I had heard that I must be diabetic as much as I drink. Come to find out when I neglected to follow up after my physical in 2002, I really screwed up! It seams that back then I was in the early stages of diabetes with a BLood sugar of 130 after fasting. Now I have spent the last year trying to manage things (diet) better, and trying cocktails of different drugs to help control my diabetes. I have just started Byetta, instead of Jenuvia to go with my Met, and actose. I am really hoping this works for me as my next step is insulin. I have gained about 7-10lbs in the last year and went from being about 20lbs over weight to almost 30lbs over weight. I atribute this to the meds since I had maintained my chubby self for years prior. The oddest thing is that we have not been able to find anyone in the family who would have blessed me with diabetes, I have genreally been healthy all my life, I am fairly young (diagnosed at 30), and I am not so obese that you could blame the onset due to weight. **SIGH** I am just lucky I guess lol. Anyway, that is me with diabetes in a nut shell.

Hello May, welcome aboard! I hope the Byetta works well for you. The fact you are not much overweight and the other symptoms you mentioned make it seem like you are a Type 1 diabetic. What kind of doctor diagnosed you? I wish you would see an endocrinologist (diabetes specialist) for a second opinion and be more certain of your diagnosis. If you are Type 1 then you would be taking insulin by injection. You are already taking Byetta by injection, right?

I have been Type 1 for 63 years and I am very healthy. Insulin by injection for 63 years saved my life. Do you eat low carb meals and exercise on a regular basis? Today is my birthday, I am 70 years old. I eat an average of 130 carbs each day and walk 2.5 miles per day. You are much younger than me so exercising should be easy for you if you are healthy.

Ask all the questions you want! We are here to help.

Richard
