Alternateve infusion sites?

2926 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Strawberry
OK been pumping for around 2 1/2 months and only using my belly. Not having any probs yet but I suppose if there are alternate sites which work for me then I would be able to give that area a rest and stop the damage in the first place.

Those of you who use your side or your buttocks, how do you go for sitting or side sleeping? Does it hurt or cause cannula probs? I use the soft cannulas and have only had one fail on insertion and one when I wrenched it. Oh then there was the gusher but I don't think I can blame the set for that!

Also has anyone used that area beneath the arm under the side of your bra (If you are a woman or a drag queen)?

Well, I don't qualify for either of the latter, but alternate between the backs of my arms, over the triceps and the tops of my thighs, the triceps. My abdomen is reserved for my CGM cannula.

I could understand using my back, around toward the side, but have never done so fearing the problems you mentioned. I've no idea how one could manage on the buttocks.

I do take care to move the insertion site somewhat at each insertion so as to avoid scarring/hardening.

Insulin delivery seems to vary somewhat depending on location, so some experimentation is in order.

Thankyou Tamago. Sounds like trial and error is the only way to find out!

You can use your legs as the same way as your arms
Yes Frank, I think using the thigh has been mentioned.

Why do i need to introduce myself? I think I will not come here any more. I'm not a baby anymore. All the restrictions make me sick. Grow up please.
You introduce yourself because it's the courteous thing to do, and because we ask you to.
Introduce Yourself Please start by introducing yourself to the rest of our community. We would be grateful if you could tell us a little bit about yourself and your experiences with Diabetes. The main aim of our community is to share experiences, knowledge and help increase the understanding and awareness of Diabetes.
I can't speak to what you add to your 'massages', but you are not allowed to post links on THIS forum until you've been here longer - brand new members who want to post links often tend to be spammers. Since you are so infuriated by this restriction on links, are you perhaps a spammer?

If you use an infusion set with longer tubing, you could try putting it on your bum. I use a longer tubing set called Quick set and also use the inserter for that infusion set. I reach behind my backside and place the set there. I am a side sleeper and have not had any problems with dislodging the set. In fact (touch wood) the bum seems to give me really good numbers.

I've also tried the area you mentioned in your original post. My numbers were mediocre but the insertion did not hurt at all. I've also tried the top of the breast area.
