I am just wondering if I might have had an early warning about getting diabetes. When I was in my early 20's, I was in the hospital with pneumonia. I remember my family doctor telling me that he was going to switch my IV from sugar solution to regular. I don't know the proper names for the different types of IV fluid, so hopefully, you will know what I mean. Anyway, my doctor said that he didn't want my sugar to go too high. I don't even know if I knew then that my maternal grandmother had T2 diabetes when I was young. She died at age 52 and I do not remember her. She is the only relative that I had with diabetes and I really do feel that I inherited the gene from her. It is too bad that there is not some type of testing that should be done at an early age if you are in a position to have inherited the gene. It should be the responsibility of every person to know their risk and get tested accordingly, but I don't think that this happens.
