Hello Everyone, my name is Johnny. I am a retired fisheries biologist and shortly after my wife had knee replacement surgery in Jan of this year, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes (Feb 26, 09). I have been lurking in several diabetes forums but have decided to join this one with the goal of learning and contributing as I am able. I take Lantus (60 U) each evening and Humalog after each meal - differing amounts according to the meal - probably averaging 15-20 U per day. I have had pretty good BG control and my first A1c test was 6.1 - my doc ( a friend of 30 years) was ecstatic. My intial readings in February were over 500. I recently took a trip back to Texas and lost some of the control that I had established - stress ( brothers funeral) , not keeping scheduled meds and overeating contributed I am sure. I seem to have it back now. So I am here to learn - thanks for any help!

Hello Johnny, welcome aboard! I am pleased to hear that you have some good control. Your A1c of 6.1 is very good. I hope you can keep your A1c low.

I have had Type 1 for 64 years and I have no complications. I eat 130g of carbs each day and get lots of exercise. With good control we can have a long, healthy life.

Hi
its really nice to read your courage about this disease. Your A1c of 6.1 is very good & you will soon get rid of this trouble. Actually my friends Paul Offen & Christian Freville are facing the same trouble since
11th October 1999. Would you like to share your nice suggestions with us in this regard. thanks.
