Don't use any drugs myself but it strikes me that this combination
Metformin
and
Acarbose - The Real Starch Blocker
would likely have some rather uncomfortable 'gastric distress' side effects

Agreed. That would be a double whammy as both cause gastric distress.

Metformin is long term in it's effect, whereas acarbose is more of a short term or immediate result drug. However, as Jenny has mentioned the glucose will eventually reach the blood stream, albeit a little later.
