Hello Katrina...Welcome to our Community!
Yes, you are right. There is:
-Type 1
-Type 2
and
-Gestational(becoming a Diabetic while pregnant)
No, a Person is not born with Type 1. The Scientists
still haven't figured out exactly the causes. They
think there is a
genetic factor, meaning a Person
may be predisposed to Type 1 through Family genes.
And something in the
environment or
viral(by getting
a dsease like mumps, measles, etc)may accidently trigger
the Person's immune system to attack and kill the beta
cells in the pancreas. The cells then cannot produce the
hormone Insulin which a Person needs to live.
No. Once a Person is diagnosed with Type 1, they will always
be a Type 1. Unless a cure is discovered.
Yes, it can be deadly if the Person diagnosed does not learn
about this disease and take the proper steps to control their
blood sugar levels. It is a complicated disease and things
like hormones, stress, foods, etc., etc., can cause the Person's
sugar level to become unbalanced.
Although no one can manage Diabetes perfectly, keeping it
close to normal most of the time will give the Diabetic many
extra years to live and much less complications.
You are Welcome. Thank you for asking.
