Are you at risk?

Thanks for your information. My dad just got diagnosed with diabetes. He had some of the classic symptoms. He is on meds now to help his blood sugar levels. He is hoping to get off it soon. He has lost 9 lbs. since Christmas and has started excersing everyday. He wants to try some natural things to help. What do you think about that?

Thanks for your input.

Hi Again Marla:

I think it's Good that your Dad lost the weight if he needed to.
Every bit lost helps to improve a Person's health.

You probably will remember that we already discussed this topic
in another thread, in regards to your Uncle. Please refer to:

http://www.diabetesforum.com/introduce-yourself/163-natural-products.html

In answer to your question:

Although the Administrator nor myself will recommend any
products natural or not (since different products can have
adverse side effects or not work as expected)your Dad is
free to try what he wishes to.

We do advise that he consult with his Dr. before trying
anything new or reducing his medications, for safety sake.

We wish him and your Uncle Good control with their Diabetes.
Your Welcome. ;)

I have heard about 2 types of diabetes

Hello, I have heard about 2 types of diabetes right. There?s the type1 or juvenile diabetes and the type2. So if you're diagnosed that you have type1 diabetes, does that mean that you were born with it? Or did you just develop it. Does type1 diabetes become or involve into type2 diabetes while you grow up? Or does is stay type1 forever? Is diabetes that deadly? Or if you just manage it well, you'll be able to keep your life? Thanks fro any input.

Hello Katrina...Welcome to our Community! :)

Yes, you are right. There is:

-Type 1
-Type 2
and
-Gestational(becoming a Diabetic while pregnant)

No, a Person is not born with Type 1. The Scientists
still haven't figured out exactly the causes. They
think there is a genetic factor, meaning a Person
may be predisposed to Type 1 through Family genes.

And something in the environment or viral(by getting
a dsease like mumps, measles, etc)may accidently trigger
the Person's immune system to attack and kill the beta
cells in the pancreas. The cells then cannot produce the
hormone Insulin which a Person needs to live.

No. Once a Person is diagnosed with Type 1, they will always
be a Type 1. Unless a cure is discovered.

Yes, it can be deadly if the Person diagnosed does not learn
about this disease and take the proper steps to control their
blood sugar levels. It is a complicated disease and things
like hormones, stress, foods, etc., etc., can cause the Person's
sugar level to become unbalanced.

Although no one can manage Diabetes perfectly, keeping it
close to normal most of the time will give the Diabetic many
extra years to live and much less complications.

You are Welcome. Thank you for asking.
