As some of you know I had decided recently that I wanted to go on the insuln pump. We filled out all of the paper work and Medtronics called me today and told me that I could have a pump for $3,800!!
I asked why and apparently my insurance plan has a cap on "durable medical devices" at $1,000. That is all they will pay. Medtronics knocked another ~$1,200 off for me but there is no way I can afford that on 30 hours a week plus going to school.
Oh well, no need to dwell on the things that are out of my control. I just need to look to the future. I have great control now but was really looking forward to getting off of the injections.
Sorry for the rant. No need to feel sorry for me, I just figured I would let everyone who knew I was thinking about the pump know that I am not going to be going on it for a while at least.

oh that sucks. Wont Medtronics allow you pay it out? I got really lucky...my insurance covered everything excelt 1100 dollars

Yeah, $81 a month for 48 months. I don't know if I wanna be tied down that long. The other alternative is financial assistance. This might be an option when I move out and make less than a certain amount of $ per year. Not that I want to make less than their number but it might be the case.

Well at least that isn't *too* unreasonable. How much of your pump supplies would insurance cover? I replace supplies every 3 months or so...insurance covers it all except 95 dollars...that's another consideration. I hope you can find a way to make it work...the pump was the best thing I ever did. It gives me the flexibility I need and my A1c dropped from 12.6 to 6.3 after going on it.

They cover 100% of supplies but that isn't a whole lot better than what is happening now anyway.
My insurance is going to change at the beginning of the year and I will reassess the situation then I guess.
I was really looking forward to the flexibility though.

You can get a little relief from the MDI by using an injection port. Would that be something that you might consider?
