A few months ago when I was first diagnosed as having diabetes I got a freestyle meter and happily went about checking my blood glucose. As long as the result from the calibration checks were within range I was happy. Alas my dr wants me to meter 3-4 times a day and my insurance only wants to pays for 2 strips a day. That leaves me paying for the strips out of pocket. My problem with that is that the strips are expensive!! A few days ago I got a relion meter from walmart with the idea of using both meters. The freestyle twice a day and the relion for the rest of the day. The reason is that the relion strips are half the price of the freestyle strips.
However I'm finding an in my mind a non-insignificant difference in the readings between the two meters. When taking readings on both meters at the same time I'm finding differences as high as 5 (forget the units right now) between the two meters. I'm type 2 and not using insulin so I'm not using the readings to determine the amount of insulin to take. I'm just wondering how significant the difference is and if it matters. My dr has given me a target of 70-140 and I'm thinking that there isn't any real importance if it's 100 or 105.
Am I way of base or do I need to get this resolved.
