Hello -
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last March. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant in 2007 and it went away but now it's back. I'm on Metformin (2000mg/day). I have watery eyes and blurry vision (mainly on my left eye). My Ophthalmologist said my everything looks normal. Does anyone else experience this symptom? Thanks.
Mbritt
For what it's worth, I'm a recently diagnosed Denial Type II (until I see an endo in late March). But I will admit to creeping BG's for the last 10 years, gradual weight gain for the last decade, AND guess what, blurry vision plus watery left eye for an even longer period, and dry eyes syndrome since 2005'ish. Myopia developed about 2005 too, and I have driving glasses because of that. Mind you, eve since I was a kid, I had what the doc's termed as weak left eye. Not weak by muscle, but weak by foveal development.
Since I have commenced a drastic weight loss diet [in early January] and heavy exercise schedule my left eye seems to have made another adjustment, and now I can't focus on any distance sharply with my left eye. But I am hoping that once my weight goal is reached, and my glucose levels stabilise, my blurriness will stabilise also.
If what Richard says about waiting for BG to stabilise is right, then there is no point me seeing an ophthalmologist again soon.
For some clarification, my left eye will water when I am on a long walk, or long bike ride, and I am not sure, but if I eat rich food [eg in spices], or am stressed, anxious, my eyes will dry up in my sleep, and my eyelids will feel like emery paper with shards of broken glass the following morning. On those days I am practically blinded by pain, and useless for at least half of the day. That hits me about once or twice a month. And the treatment the ophthalmologist has given me for the dry eyes is plenty of eye drops. If I can stick to them that is. I try and guess when I am going to have trouble and pre-empt it, but don't always get it right.
I am not on any insulin, nor meds. My BG's pre-prandial are around 4.7 to 7 [the latter after exercise], and post-prandial is between 5.2 and 8.2 [2hrly]. HTH!
