Hi

I don't know if this helps or not, I'd just like to let you know that I was born with diabetes (neo natal Type one) and I'm now the grand old age of 43.

I'm really well, I run my own clinical hypnotherapy practice, I've travelled loads and went walkabouts around South America for a year a few years ago.

I was brought up with a fairly strict regime which I still use and this has really helped me have a full and fun times.

Good luck and take care
V :)

Thanks for your post, Vale. It's always great to hear from lifelong (or nearly) diabetics who lead full and happy lives. We have a number of members who were diagnosed decades ago and are still going strong - Richard157 joined the T1 ranks in 1945. With dedication, T1 can be managed and it's not the whole of who we are....there's a big, beautiful, exciting world out there for people who want to participate.

I was diagnosed at only 4 days old I was def at the back of the queue for wonky pancreas, but at the front of the queue for sheer stubborness to get on with life.

My diabetes can be traced back to a certain line and only females along that family line get diabetes T1 - all strong and determined women inc my great grandma who I never met but I feel a strong bond with out of our shared history.

Take care V

Maybe in times to come gene therapy will be able to sort out the problems with the genetic code. But for now one have to live with his/her DNA and it's mRNA (m for messenger) that sends out the faulty code from the cell nucleus.

Your story is inspiratioal.

Thanks for sharing :) I got my wonderful gene from my father-- who was Type 1 @ 18 months of age.. he has since passed on.. I got diagnosed type 1 @ age 30.. been a rocky 5 years but I am hopeful and with a supportive spouse and family this disease has NO chance :p I am very hopeful that in my children's generation they will find a cure for it-- got to have hope.
