My caloric intake runs about 1500-1800, and usually less than 50g of carbs per day. The secret is including fats in your low-carb meals. If you're still trying to lose weight, the fats won't hurt you one bit - they work beautifully with a low-carb diet because they can't raise your blood sugar, they provide energy & give a nice sense of satiety (it's the fat-with-carbs combination that produces obesity). Heaven knows you don't have to drink olive oil for breakfast - all you have to do is use regular full-fat products like butter, sour cream, mayonnaise, heavy dairy cream, etc., in normal amounts in your meals. The BEST product to use is coconut oil - it is metabolized quickly for good energy & it greatly helps dissolve the spare tire - belly fat that is ubiquitous with diabetics.
