How can I wake up with one number, take meds, NOT EAT, and my numbers get higher after a few hours of being awake? This doesn't make much sense to me.

If you do not eat your liver will provide you with its own glucose. Some T2's do not have a good regulator when it comes to their liver out put so it makes them go higher than they should be. Helps to eat something in the morning.

Myself I drink a cup of coffee in which I put 4g of sugar, 4 packets of art sweetener, heavy cream, coconut oil. I get a rapid 10-15pt rise then I am back to baseline in 30 minutes with out the nagging morning rise.

Weird...I ate the bacon and eggs and it went down by 40 pts...just checked it again and it is 137 now, the lowest I have been in at least a year. I guess the glimepiride is working as intended now.
