I am a caregiver of a person with intellectual/developmental disabilities who also happens to be a type 2 diabetic. I am with this person for every medical appointment and am very familiar with their numbers.

I am looking for ways to help this person understand this disease and to better help themselves make good choices. I also need to help train the others around this individual how best to mange the disease.

Hello and :welcome:

As you are not actually the patient, I will be moving your thread to our Family and Friends of Diabetics - The Diabetes Forum Support Community For Diabetics Online forum where you will find other members with similar issues.

In the meantime, a superb site that will give you, the patient and other friends a very complete overview of this condition is Blood Sugar 101. The author has managed to present in a non-technical way a great deal of information with links to the science behind the ideas. I think you will find it helpful.

Are you a family member or a paid caregiver? If you are a paid caregiver you must be very careful about what you teach and what advice you give. The approach advocated on this forum is very different than the conventional approach, and you could find yourself in trouble for contradicting those in charge.

I think that's very sad, but it's also reality. Tread carefully.
