I discovered that I had type 2 diabetes on September 2 of this year. I have been taking my meds and have changed my diet. My BG is in the 80s on a regular basis now. My concern is that eventhough I maintain a good BG that I will have complications in the future. I'm only 48 years old and don't want to die young or have life changing complications. Please help with advice or information that can give me a clue of what to expect.

Thanks!

You are taking very good care of yourself and have very good numbers. If you eat low carb, weigh what is considered close to your ideal weight, and exercise on a regular basis then you should not have to worry about your future. I have been a diabetic for 64 years and I am very healthy. I was diagnosed in 1945 when I was 6. I am 70 years old now and I am not worried about my future so I certainly do not think you should worry either.

I know one man who has had diabetes for 85 years. His name is William Rounds. Google his name and read his story. There are many long term diabetics alive and well. Relax and enjoy your life, without worry.

Spoke with a "healthy" friend to get some tips on working out, weight loss, etc. He admitted that he had type 2 diabetes for 20 years (was diagnosed at 36) and has never had a complication. He walks a couple of times a day, eats low carbs and has one drink a day. Has anyone done a life expectancy study that ONLY includes type 2 diabetics that stay fit and keep their BG low?
