Confused!

hi! I am a newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetic. For right now my doc wants to test only before I eat and at bedtime. I have been noticing that my highest numbers are in the morning unless I eat something really bad like ice cream. I have been cutting almost all carbs out and no bread. So i guess my question is: why is my highest number in the morning? what makes bg rise? so confused........

ahhh. So the better I get a handle on my BG, the lower the number will be in the mornings? I am usually running 104-122 right now. And when I go to bed it's anywhere from 104-130.
Thank you Bountyman for your help:)
