As gone through the groups, tried 1 of each group and get terrible side affects, doc fed up wih me, I'm on irbesartan now and have, terrible acid reflux and cough, feel sick, he has refused x 3 to take me off, so only group left durectics, I'm really miserable now hope so knows as I've read they cause high blood sugars. Thanks.

Type 1s may take diuretics, yes. As with many other kinds of drugs, they can affect your blood glucose levels because they can impair glucose metabolism. So you -- along with your medical team -- may need to alter the amounts or timings of your insulin doses to counter that effect. However, high blood pressure is bad news and worth tweaking diabetes medication/insulin doses to control. As always, we're not medically certified, but you should be able to move to a diuretic BP medication if you keep track of how your blood glucose levels may change and treat accordingly.

By groups are you referring to ACE inhibitors, ARBs, and Beta Blockers? There is a variety of choices of meds in each group, probably all of them have some side effects, some more tolerable than others. Like itissteve says, high BP is bad, so you do need to address it, and with your medical team's help they should be able to find something more tolerable. I take lisinopril, an ACE inhibitor, it is infamous for the cough, but it's not so bad that it bothers me for now.
