Sorry, I was slow in seeing this! I just had surgery on a umbilical hernia, not a big deal but it took a few days to get going.
I have asked about ED on this website, very few if any responded. I guess it is a difficult subject for many....to bad, because men with diabetes will eventually have ED, so knowledge for them and their spouse (girl friends) is important. Like most complications with diabetes, they can be bad, but you do not have to stop living...you just have to adapt!
I have struggled with ED for sometime. I am type 2, 67 years old, and married for 48 years. My wife, fortunately, has been very patient while I get educated about other options, aside from Viagra type drugs. They worked for me for some time, but over the last 3 years, they just do nothing! I assume you know about all the other drugs available, like Cialis and maybe a couple others, I have tried them all. Many doctors will give you samples to try before you have to buy any, some may work better or be less expensive depending on your medical insurance. Other options you may hear about like the 'pump' don't waste you time or money, the guy on the radio who says for $200 he can fix you. These guys are usually not even a Urologist and they offer a 'fizzy' Viagra that is supposed to be "much stronger" and an injectable, which they charge an arm and a leg for....again don't waste your time or money. Find a Urologist they are the best option from my experience.
I have been working with my Urologist and we are now using a formulated injectable. Sounds scary, I know.... but once you learn how to do the injection, on the side of your 'private part', it is not a big deal. Very thin needle and the drug does not burn or cause pain when injected. Once I figured out the right combination and the proper dosage, it has been good. And the cost per injection is small.....compared to Viagra
My Viagra did not cost a lot when I was using it, do to the insurance plan I was in when I was working. But many men I know, that wanted it, also paid a dear price for it. For me, I am welling to pay whatever... for what works, as this is still an important part of my life...I will cut back on other things to be able to have physical intimacy with my wife.
Finally, the last option is have surgery with an implant being put in. They have two, one that stays firm all the time, you can read up on that one. My understanding is that many insurance companies and Medicare pays for most of this....surgery.
The other option is an insert that can be inflated and deflated as needed. Those that get these like them a lot, I have spoke to others who have this. But the surgery and related costs can run up to $20,000 and nothing is covered by insurance.
Well that is about all I can think of, I have tried to leave out anything that would be an issue for others to read, but this topic is important, especially for diabetics.....feel free to send me a private message if you have added questions, as I have bee researching a dealing with this for some time....
Good Luck...don't give up, new options are showing up every year and tons of research is going on....
