So today was my first time testing my blood sugar. I have a ReliOn All-In-One and when I finally managed to get a little blood on the strip I got a E-2 message meaning there wasn't enough blood on the strip. So I tried again with more blood and same. I tried a different tactic to make me pretty much pour blood and put a lot on the strip covering the tip. I got the E-2 message. There was no way there wasn't enough blood. I am confused cause when my mom does it she doesn't get an error. This is my mom's older glucometer that she only had for a few months before getting a better one. It wasn't like this one was bad she just wanted a more portable one understandably. Any idea what is going on? I pretty much just wasted 3 hours trying this and I'm just glad that I'm only prediabetic so it's not like I need this or I die.

Are the strips you are using for that specific meter, not all Relion strips are for every Relion meter?

Yes they are the ones that came with that meter.

There's a learning curve to these things. As far as getting enough blood - I find that warm hands bleed easier than cold. Also, if too much blood goes into the strip it'll error. Pull the strip up just as soon as it indicates it has enough.

All 3 time I put different ampuntsmof blood on it so the amount wasn't truly the issue.

In past years the incidence of Errors for my Glucometer/test strips would increase based on the room temperature. Not sure if this is the issue for you but thought it worth mentioning.

At the present time, I live in a northern climate and heat my home in the winter using wood. Those mornings that the house was less than 50 F or 10 C my Glucometer would give me errors. I had to basically warm up both the strips and the glucometer in my pocket before using during colder temperatures.

As well, get someone else to try the Glucometer see if it still generates errors. It might of been dropped too many times or the batteries are low - yuo just gotta love electronics of all kinds ...

Could be that the strips are outdated (there is a date stamped on the packaging) or that they are defective. Are you close enough to a Walmart to buy another pack of strips and try those?

Also (I know this sounds almost insultingly basic but I gotta ask; we want this to work for you) are your hands clean and dry when you take the strip out of the vial? Are you doing anything with the strip between taking it out of the vial and inserting it in the meter? Are you touching either end of the strip when you handlle it? It sounds like you're getting enough blood on the strip but something along the way is going awry.

ETA I really like rsf's suggestion of old batteries, too. Maybe pick up some of those at Walmart, too.

Reading about the meter on Walmart's site I saw this in the Q&A section:

What kind of replacement test strips do I buy for this machine?

1. There are no replacement strips to buy. This is a $20 complete 'kit'. Once the 50 strips are gone you dispose of the entire unit. When / If you buy a new one, you get a new meter, new carrying sleeve, new lancing device, new control solution, more lancets AND 50 more strips. So a whole new clean set of materials with each purchase. This keeps all your needed materials fresh.

2. You don't buy replacement strips--the meter and strips are a kit, and the price is low. You just dispose of the meter and buy a new kit each time. No battery replacement, no coding.

Interesting. I've not set foot in a Walmart in maybe 15 years (and wasn't looking for glucose meters then) so I didn't know. Sounds like a replacement kit is in order.

That may be it. We had to look it up cause we lost the manual. We may try later in a different temperature setting.

This is the description of the error code E-2

The meter temperature is outside acceptable range of 50˚F-104˚F (10˚C-40˚C). Allow the meter and test strips to warm up or cool down slowly(20 minutes) until the temperature warning symbol goes away.

If your meter and strips are kept in your home, I wouldn't expect to see this error. I'd give it another try, but even if it did work, I'd be highly suspicious of the accuracy. Being as it is a disposable meter, I'd just dispose of it and get me a new meter that I could buy reasonably priced strips for.
