Hello,

My father has type 2 diabetes. His doctor has him on 4 oral medications. These seems like a lot?

Unfortunately, we don't have enough info to give you a proper answer. If you know what meds he's taking, please tell us:

1. If all 4 meds are for diabetes.

2. Which meds he's on.

In general, we believe that meds are sometimes necessary ... but we keep them to a minimum. We take what we need, no more and no less.

Yes, 4 diabetes medications. Metformin, Glipizide, Actos, and a newer one (can't remember the name...oral medication and very expensive!)

Also, curious as to what the "very expensive" oral medication is.

Glip is going to be nothing but trouble. That is one crazy med

Glipizide can cause serious low blood glucose (hypolycemic) episodes.

On the whole, the safest diabetic meds are also the oldest: Metformin and insulin.

Nutrition is the Number One treatment of choice, whether or not additional meds are also required.

Is your dad on any kind of eating plan?
