I fell asleep last night and forgot my metformin dose. Should I take it this morning or write it off until tonight? My fsb was 87 this morning.

You take 500 mg/day which isn't much. The maximum dosage is 2000 mg of the ER. I'd go ahead and take it since your next isn't until this evening.

If I've only missed one dosage, I take it when I remember, or if I don't catch it until the next dose is due, I take both at once. This results in me taking 2000mg of metformin all at once, but I've had not ANY ill effects from it.

Dunno what distracted me yesterday, but I took no meds at all - missed both morning and night. So this morning I took last night's pills along with today's morning pills, but yesterday morning meds are just gone. Weird thing is, I slept for 13 hours last night. Mebbe it's my meds that are keeping me awake! ;)

Sometimes, one in a blue moon, I just skip my meds for a day or two. Just to feel 'normal' again. I'm so jealous when I see people who can go away for a weekend, not even taking headache pills with. I don't do it often but it sometimes just feel so good to forget about disease and meds, even if is only for a day.

I dont know if it is caused by meds, but every once in a while I'll go to sleep around 6PM and not wake up till noon the next day. Odd.

This happens to me too, prob'ly once a month or so, and I have no explanation either. It's a little unnerving & I'm always shocked to discover how long I've slept.

Thanks everyone. I went ahead and took it. I will continue with my normal dose tonight.

My wife is out of town and my boys spent the night with grandma. I laid down to watch a movie before dinner and woke up this morning. Man was I hungry when I got up. That omelette with spinach, cheese, turkey, asperagus and salsa was yummy. Took my pill with that. BS 2 hours later was 112. I was all worried about missing my meds.

So can somebody tell me what the Metformin does for me exactly? I know it is supposed to take the load off my pancreas but I don't fully understand how.

Metformin works in the liver & coaxes it to manufacture/release less glucose into the bloodstream. It also makes the insulin receptors more sensitive so that the cells are able to access the glucose which is already in the blood. Win/win equation!

Metformin reduces the amount of glucose production in the liver and increases insulin sensitivity. Jenny has a page w/ studies on this - Metformin
