Whew, I finally got the meter and I did my first reading after about 5 errors. The number was 142 but the gal on the phone at Bayer pointed out that I tested too soon after eating lunch, so I will wait another hour to test again. Still, 142 isn't normal, but it's a hell of a lot better than 260 a few days ago!

I think it was less than an hour, and I just had a very small salad - spring mix, cucumbers, tomatoes, some shredded cheese. Is 142 a halfway decent reading?

For the time being, until you sort out which foods don't spike you, testing one hour after your first bite is my recommendation. You need to learn exactly how high you go on certain foods, and if it's too high (over 140), then avoid eating those things that send it too high.

142 is an acceptable reading, but you don't want to be going any higher than that very often or for very long.
