Hi,
I am able to eat a small amount of oat groats w/o causing a significant spike in BG. I am interested in adding flaxseed meal in the oat groats for the Omega 3 because I do not want to take the oil capsules. Does anyone know the impact of flax on BG? Will it slow the rise in blood sugar from the oats or raise it in your opinion?

Thanks--

Opinion - the fiber may slow how fast the carbs are converted to glucose. Flax seed has many potential health benefits.

Thanks mbuster for your reply. This is my thinking also.

Yes @ mbuster, the chia seeds constipate me for some strange reason, so I can't use those.

(My husband is 20+ years T1 diabetic. We eat a flax poridige with 3 TBSP ground flax most mornings. I usually bolus insulin for 4 grams of carb. We do not eat oats so I do not know if it will slow the spike from the oat groats. Ronnie is having a problem maintaining a BG below 100 mg/dl He is near 76 years old and suffering from increasingly severe dementia. We would love to get his omega 3 level up. I am interested in finding a liquid omega 3 supplement. He is balking at swallowing capsules and pills.

Good to see you post again. I'm sorry Ronnie has dementia -- horrible disease.

When I do a quick Web search I find plenty of options for fish oils, some of which offer more or less omega 3s and maybe some other supplements. Are you looking for one in particular?

Sorry to hear about Ronnie. I think you need to find a product with higher amounts of DHA.
