I was goofing around on my computer one day and typed in "free product samples" and I had a number of websites to look at. I don't remember which site that I went to but I filled out some health info and today I received a free Bayer Contour Meter for free. It came with everything, including 10 test strips. Not bad for goofing around! :D

That's the meter my insurance made me get for free because it's the only one they pay full benefits for the test strips. Here's the kicker.. the strips cost about $1.30 each. Cheaper for me but the insurance company is paying a small fortune in strips. And the lancet sucks.
I have a ReliOn meter from Walmart that cost $9. and the strips are40cents each. Has a real nice lancet too. I have to use the Bayer meter but I still use the ReliOn lancet.
The free Bayer would probably be good for a non-diabetic who just wants to test occasionally. Due to the family history my 35 year old son wants a meter at home to keep on top of it. The 10 free strips would last him awhile.
Does the Relion meter have the ability to be downloaded to my computer? My doctor wants the results from my BG meter, but I need a meter that can be downloaded to a computer. Thanks for your help.

I don't think that the Relion meter has the ability to download from a computer. You would probably need to go to a Bayer or Abbott meter to be able to download from a computer. You will have to pay more for the Bayer or Abbott strips.
This says the ReliOn Confirm meter has downloading capabilities, but I can't elaborate on that because I've only had mine a coupla weeks & I'm pretty sure it didn't come with anything to facilitate downloading. That prob'ly is available separately.

The old ReliOn Ultima doesn't have that capability.
Both the ReliOn Confirm and the Bayer Contour have optional download functions but both require that you purchase separate data cords to use the feature.

The Bayer does have more bells and whistles like keeping track of how many high tests and how many lows and you get to define what high and low values are, more averaging options, test marking options, etc.
The contact number for ordering the ReliOn cable is 800-631-0076 . . . haven't called it yet, so dunno what it costs.

And it's the same number for ordering control solution too.

Thanks for all the info, you did my work for me! :D
One Touch has an offer to send a free One Touch UltraMini glucometer. I submitted my request about 10 days ago and just got shipping information. No cost at all.

Well, I can't seem to post URLs util I have 5 posts... it's www dot onetouchdiabetes dot com slash offers
totally free? very cool

as for the lancet issue, you can use any lancet you like, no?
I have the Ultra Mini... Ok I have 3 because when i was at the Doctors last week the tech told me i was a 202 on her meter so I tested with mine... 141... Then she grabbed a new one... 141... then another... 143.... She threw hers away! Anyway.. The new Lancet that they now have is 100% better than the old. I would say the needle is half the size and I barely feel it. It is capable of downloading to the computer if you buy the $30 program and cable.

I do not know if it will help but I have a spreadsheet that I found online that I take about 10 minutes a day and fill it out... My Doctor was Ok with that. There is also a website I found but it would not work for me... Most likely because of me not the program. If you want the spread sheet or website let me know and I will e-mail it to you

Touch One Ultra Mini is being given away on a few different sites, you have to buy the software to download your results. The test strips are covered by most insurance companies with co-payment by you at little to no cost.

With my insurance I pay $25 for 100 test strips.
