Freestyle Lite test strip recall

Yesterday I received a certified letter from Abbott Labs stating there has been a recall on FreeStyle Lite test strips lot # 0822524. These strips can cause false low readings. If you have FreeStyle Lite test strips of this lot number, you are to throw them out and call their Abbott Diabetes Care Customer Care at 1-888-466-0071 and they will arrange to have replacement strips sent to you at no charge. The same phone number can be called if you have any questions regarding your test strips. Thankfully, I did not have any test strips of this lot number. Hopefully you won't either.

I ran parallel comparison tests with my Ultra Mini vs the Freestyle Lite. My Ultra Mini has tested + to - 1 with my lab blood work.
I ran parallel with 1 Ultra Mini and 3 Freestyle Lite Meters using 2 sets of Freestryle Lite Strips for 260-270 strips. I got readings for the Freestylw Lite ranging from 22 points over to 49 points down from my Ultra Mini. My conclusion is that the Freestyle Lite meter is dangerous to ones diabetic health.

Well Finally I see a poster who acknowledges that the free style lite meters are totally out of whack.. I bought 2 of them each one after my A1C - which always came back way higher that what I was averaging on a daily basis. I could'nt understand how or why my BS differed sooo much to the A1C readings. After the second time this happend - I ditched the Free stye and bought the Accuchek nano. Compared readings and at one stage my Accuchek reading was 5.8 and freestyle lite was 4.6 ... needless to say - I now use the Accuchek and threw all my freestyle lite meters in the bin!

Hi Ruby, it is nice seeing you here today!

Odar, Ruby is calling our attention to a particular lot number of Free Style strips. I have used Free Style meters since Sept, 2006. They have been very good meters. I am currently using two Free Style Freedom meters and one Free Style Lite meter. They agree very closely with my Relion meters from Walmart.

My friend experienced a very similar scenario where his Freestyle Lite meter would always read 20 to 30 points higher than Accuchek Nano. In fact, he said that sometimes the Freestyle Lite meter would vary by as much as 15 points in two consecutive back-to-back readings (less than 30 seconds apart). He is going to test 4 different meters when his upcoming lab work is due.
