I'm going through a book called Eat that Frog by Brian Tracy. It's a goal setting book. I bought the workbook too.

I have a goal to lose weight by eating better (and ultimately get out of the diabetes category) but I can't think of anything fun to set as a goal. I have physical health issues and can only do mild yoga as exercise (or ride a stationary bike)...and it's boring with a capital B. I don't mind some of my goals taking "work" but not all of them. Drudgery is just drudgery. I also wrote down art and writing. I'm good at these things but they're not very fun. They're challenging and good creative expression but that's it.

What kind of goals to other people have?

Mine is to watch my grandkids grow up. Well, that's the long-term goal.

Another is to avoid the fate of so many diabetics I see around me -- the lady next door with severe neuropathy; the members of our dance club who can't make it through an entire night because they're just so tired and sore; the friend of mine who's so frail now that he can't use power tools safely (and who, interestingly, states his wife is diabetic but never refers to himself that way even though that was the cause for most of what ails him). It's what keeps me moving and eating better.

I will admit that, lately, keeping on the straight and narrow all the time has been a challenge, but life is pretty stressful for me right now so I'm giving myself a little grace knowing better times are coming very soon. So one of my goals is relieving the stress and being able to climb a little higher onto the keto wagon.

I know there are videos you can get (borrow from the library) which are essentially videos of a tour being taken by bicycle riders; might it be more interesting to pedal your bike as the scenery changes in front of you? Would Seinfeld Chains be a motivator for you?

Possible goals for reaching weight-loss milestones: new (or new-to-you) clothes (you'll eventually need 'em anyway)? A book or (showing my age here) a music album or DVD you'd like? And there's all kinds of art -- maybe you just haven't yet found the form that appeals to you.

Goals that require depriving myself of something don't ever get met. Well intentioned, but not very realistic. I'm usually more successful with dietary goals if I get away from the house or get involved with a project that takes my mind off food and my body out of the kitchen!

Goals that require action are easier to strive for and reach. I need to make my goals more of this variety. It's also good to have several short-term goals that when met give one confidence and satisfaction.

I am currently in the midst of a short-term goal of rearranging my craft room and going through all the stuff. It's taking several days and I'm not finished yet, but I work on it off and on every day. When it's done it'll feel real good. (Then I'll start an art project and everything will be scattered around the surfaces again! This goal can be reused and recycled.)

Those sound like good goals. I'm not surrounded by people with diabetes so I don't see the consequences. Sometimes, I ignore the fact that I have it (even if it isn't serious yet). I need to change that.

It's hard to resist treats during times of stress.

I saw some DVDs with different nature scenes. I don't think my library carries them but I've seen them on amazon. :) I could give one a try.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

The same happens to me. I should think of more things to do away from home. Thanks for commenting.

I've never been an exerciser but was always a walker because I was motivated to get into nature as much as possible. Now I have physical limitations and can't do that anymore and bump up against the issues you raised. Doing PT type exercises is something I, um, loathe.

But if I still had full mobility I'd get my cardio and exercise by walking/hiking, and forego anything else pretty much. Gyms never appealed to me.
