My husband has diabetes2 and we have been following the advice below. I figure if it is false, at least we will be eating healthier.

I read an article online that said you can cure diabetes if you get margarine and bad oils and fats out of your diet and only eat good fats like butter and olive oil. Is this true? Does anyone know someone who has been cured this way? A dietician told me diabetes2 cannot be cured, but I find that hard to believe because I have heard for years that it is curable.

When you read or hear anyone promoting a cure, there's usually also a proposal that you part with your hard-earned money before they tell you any specifics about it. You get to pay first, of course, because there ARE no specifics, least of all eating a lowfat diet, which is one of the biggest scams ever perpetrated on the general public (look up Ancel Keys to get that story).

The hard cold facts are that there IS NO CURE at this time. Diabetes can be CONTROLLED; it cannot yet be cured.

Another hard cold fact is that fats are good for us. There is mounting evidence that far from increasing the risk of heart disease, a low-carb/high-fat diet literally improves our cholesterol. rule number one: do not bother asking a person who's livelihood would be threatened if a condition is curable if that condition is curable. it's like asking a Ford dealer if a Chevrolet is a better buy!

olive oil is good but you also need flax oil to get all your polyunsaturated fats to rebuild your cells

I didn't know what flax oil (flaxseed oil) was, so I looked it up on the web and found you should not take flax oil if you are taking blood thinners, blood sugar medications, Cyclosporine, cholesterol-lowering medications, topical steroids and some anti-inflammatory medications.

My husband takes 81 mg of aspirin a day, which is a blood thinner. He is also taking something to lower his cholesterol.

Raindance, I'm a newbie too. Diabetes CANNOT be cured. You might have heard the term 'reversed' but that just means you can get it to go into a sort of remission if you eat healthy and work out everyday - it takes hard work. Yes, only eat FULL fats from now on. From what I understand, they slow the absorption of the carbs.

you have been brainwashed well, but i can no longer afford that stupid dogma because my kidneys are failing from taking metformin so i have been taking flax oil and not cooking my food. my insulin sensitivity has increased from 5 mg/dl/IU insulin to 15 mg/dl/IU insulin in this last month and i have dropped metformin to try to save my kidneys

cooking food turns any Omega-3 fats into toxic garbage. this i can no longer afford although i would much prefer cooked food. that guy with "raw for 30 days" is not so very far wrong, but i really dislike raw foods. cooking your food is killing you!

yes, trans-fats are bad for you.
and it your choice, the nutrition you need or the medications your doctor orders you to take. some people drop the unnecessary medications in favor of the nutrition they need.

Whether butter is good for a person seems to be debatable. For what it’s worth, I use butter but don’t make a habit of it. Coconut oil (I use extra virgin organic coconut oil) is, I think most everyone would agree, a healthier choice than butter, and I use it to gently stir-fry vegetables several times a week. Both butter and coconut oil are mostly saturated fat, which most doctors will tell you is unequivocally bad for you, but a lot of people, including myself, are skeptical that saturated fat is really the enemy, especially shorter chain saturated fat like coconut oil. Saturated fat is also much more stable with heat, which makes it much more suitable for cooking than, say, olive oil.

Olive oil, especially extra virgin olive oil, is a rather fragile oil that can be degraded by heat, light, and time. It is, however, a very healthy source of monounsaturated fat, and most people would agree, I think, that most of our fat intake should be MU fat. Assuming you are using it on top of cooked food, don’t pour it on until you’ve turned off the heat. Also, I recommend keeping it in a cool, dark place, and avoid letting it get too old. Avocados and most nuts are also a good supply of MU fat.

Polyunsaturated fats are often considered sort of healthy, sort of unhealthy. But my understanding of PU fat is that people eat too much omega-6 PU fat and too little omega-3 PU fat. Walnuts, soy, and canola oil contain omega-3 although humans generally need the omega-3 found in fish. I take fish oil pills for my omega-3. PU fats are less stable with heat; I’d generally avoid using them for baking and cooking.

I was diagnosed Type II March of 2010. Today I am not taking any medication what so ever to control my Blood Sugar. I am cured?? heck NO. I know someday even with all of my dieting and the work outs I do as I get older I will be back on insulin or something. Hopefully by that day a cure will be found. I am riding in the National Tour de Cure in our local town to help raise support to finding a cure.

Diabetes cannot be cured but it can be managed. When I eat a LC/HF diet my bgs will stay in the 80-100 range even after meals. I use real organic butter, extra virgin cooking oil, olive oil, real sour cream and full fat cheese. I avoid low fat everything. I now weigh 118 pounds and all my numbers are great but I know I am not cured. I cannot eat what normal people eat and not spike.
