Got my pump today.

Set up by the Roche rep and my trusty CDE. It went well helped by the fact that remote contol is much the same as my accu-check avivia expert meter so I am used to how that works and just had to get my head around the pump function. I haven't quite done that yet but see the CDE again tomorrow. Currently I am able to test and bolus and correct. I also know how to do a temporary basal increase if things are not too good later, as she has started me off very conservatively, of course. Was surprised how easy it was to insert the infusion set. Painless. The next few days should be interesting...

So glad it's been a positive experience for you Hillary. All the best for continuing success.
Good luck with it. It took me a while to get mine dialed in for my patterns. Certainly don't miss all the daily injections. You can really make almost unlimited adjustments to suit your needs. Hope it works out for you.
Still waiting for my training appt to be set. Got my rigging: Pump, Meter, Transmitter ... and 4 mos' supplies, taking up 1/3 of my closet ... also waiting for vial of humalog and the deathly costly strips! And, yes, the first 3 communicate among themselves!

Amazing how much space everytning takes up isn't it? I bought a large clear plastic storage bin and put all my supplies in that helps keep it clean and organized instead of cardboard boxes.
Funny you mention test strips , I am going today to pick up my new ones also that go with the Bayer Contour meter that works with the medtronic 530G , I was warned that they will cost more but was not told how much more. Time will tell. Good luck , I can't beleive once you get going on it that you won't find it just so much easier and levels in better control.

Okay, cut and pasted, cross-post, but: Pumpers who eat LC or VLC, do you use an I:C ratio? Or do you pretty much "know" what bolus amount is going to work for your meal? My CDE who will be training me seemed disappointed or concerned that I do not use a calculated ratio! I explained, well, I almost invariably use a 3U or 4U bolus, so it has become intuitive ... Well then we won't be using the Bolus Wizard, so you won't be taking full advantage of the pump's features ... I GUESS we can still set your basal rate, anyhow ...
And you already know my response from 'around the corner' . . . ;)

With that 3 or 4 unit bolus , how many carbs does that cover. I use a I-C ratio but for the most part I can give a pretty good guess on how many units for what I am eating , would be the same for a syringe even though you are guessing 3-4 units you are still basing that on what you are eating.

Figure out a ratio and use the bolus wizard if you can , it helps with being able to look back and track patterns , the wizard also takes into consideration you current sugar , carb intake and insulin on board that is still active.

I would say use any options that you possably can.

It takes some time to get it all figured out so just take your time and be paitent , once you get it figured out I think you will be pleasantly suprised with the reasults.

I would say under 10, subtracting fiber. But honestly, I think our metabolism alters; protein may play a great role through GNG, and fat of course slows things down, as does fiber ... so for me, not sure their rigid "science" will be all that helpful? So, if it is 3U for 10g carb (ONLY), it would be abt 1:3; then at dinner maybe 1:4? It really is a dunno thing!

lets just say 10 carbs for 3 units as an example

Divide the carbs by the insulin and the reasult is your ratio

10/3= 3.33
so that is one unit for just over 3 carbs , 3.33 to be exact. Not sure how many spots past the decimal point you carb ratio will allow

example #2

40 carbs / 4 units = 10 this would be one unit for every 10 carbs.
