My daughter-in-law tested our almost 4 year old grandson's fasting blood sugar and it was almost 200. He had testing at the dr and they said his A1C is 4.9 which they said is normal for his age. The drs. said nothing further needs to be done because he is not diabetic. what would cause his fasting level to be so high? I'm very concerned about him. His Mother's mom died from diabetic complications at 45 years old. She was diabetic from the age of 14. His dads dad Was diabetic from age 3 and died at 55. Now his dad was diagnosed last year at age 26 so there is a huge family history.

BBBut, the fasting is the last to go up! I'd encourage his mother to press on with the matter with that history!

I would recommend finding another doctor. A child's blood sugar can go bad very fast, especially in the case of type 1 diabetes, and the A1C can take a while to "catch up" and show a problem. His fasting blood sugar is much too high and it is worth the trouble you (or your family) must go through to figure out what is wrong, especially considering his family history.

UNLESS.....it wasn;t fasting. An oreo or three under the pillow, some left over gold fish under the bed, a handfull of sugary treats gramma left in his room. Check him again...check him post prandial. Kids are sneaky
