I was checking prices on test strips (the most expensive part). I came across a brand I never heard of: "Embrace." The price is $17.49 for 100 (totaldiabetessupply.com). The meter is $6.99. I thought there had to be a catch. No catch. I ordered the package & it came today. Even with the $7.00 shipping, $31.43 for a meter & 100 test strips is a bargain. The One-Touch Verio I'm using-test strips are $100.00 - $120.00/100. Ridiculous!!
I tested both meters to compare. Since I just had lunch a few minutes ago, I expected a high number but I wanted to compare results. The One Touch Verio read 230. The Embrace read 215. Close enough.
The Embrace meter does everything the One Touch does - backlit display, stores numbers, connects to computer, etc, uses cheap AAA batteries which are included, same tiny blood sample & no coding; it's automatic. Plus, it talks; It says, "Your blood sugar is _____" & you can shut that feature off if you like.
At that price, it's a good idea to have a spare meter to take with you when you go out & leave the other one at home.
