I'm a 28 yr old type 2 for 5 years. When I first was diagnosed I lost 60 lbs quick and all syptoms went away which made not only me but my doctor think my high blood sugar was the result of overwhelming amount of full time college student stress. Four years later I began having more symptons while beginning my first post grad corporate job. This time weight loss has been impossible and high bs level persist on multiple medication combination with diet and exercise. Now that I have recently been put on insulin, depression and mood swings as come into the picture. I knew then that I needed support that could not be obtain with my current group of friends and family. I hope my experience here will lead to the support and information I need to get back to me. So that diabetes will not be the last of me, I will be... Omargo the Diva.

Good to meet you, Omargo, and I hope you'll find a good fit here. I've lived long enough to learn the importance of what you say . . . the necessity of getting back to yourself. That has to be the bottom line, because nobody does it for you - not your doc or your friends or your family. In fact, most times those people don't have a clue unless they're diabetic themselves. And if you're a caregiver for others, you must take care of yourself first in order to be there for them.

I suppose some might think we're a pretty strange bunch, but we definitely know what you're talking about, and that's an enormous load relieved, when you know you aren't alone.

I look forward to getting better acquainted & hope you'll be able to visit us often.

Hi Omargo,

Welcome to the forum. Hope you keep visiting and keep asking questions.

Several of our friends on the forum where put on insulin and were able to get off the insulin within a few months after getting excellent control. These are the guys whom I look for inspiration as well ! And you've lost your weight once, you know that you can do it again. Persist with it. Results will show.

Often I get depressed myself. But i know depression worsens by blood sugars. Both of us are nearly the same age. But like you I have also decided that diabetes will not be the last of me and will not stop me from having a long, healthy and happy life.

You've done it once, you'll do it again. I'm confident !

Welcome !

Tony

Hi, Diva. I see from another of your posts that you were hospitalized with bg of over 500. That's a very loud wake-up call.

Most doctors tell us that being overweight causes diabetes, but many of us were thin, not under any stress, ate 'healthy' and exercised, but still ended up with it. What kind of diet are you on now? If you do some reading at Blood Sugar 101 you will find great information that is very helpful to diabetics. Welcome to the forum.
