Yesterday, I went and saw my opthamalogist. I had a small growth in the back of my eye for 14 years. When I saw it on film, it had grown a great deal.

I have been having seizures lately, which is a complication of diabetes. I have also had trouble reading or even seeing. It is on my right eye. I have been having my seizures on my right side, too. I had my fall from last Oct 27, on my right side. Three weeks ago, I twisted my ankle and down I went. Again, it was on my right side. Diabetes affects the brain. I was told that, by my neurologist, when I first was diagnosed

My opthamalogist wants my records from 14 years ago from Kaiser Hospital. They are having trouble getting them, so they have asked me to help out. I know where Kaiser keeps their records. I do not know if they keep them that far back.

Sorry for rambling on, but I am having problems seeing out of my right eye. I see better with my dark sunglasses.

Does anyone have any ideas for this problem? I would appreciate it.

Hi again Ruth,

Wow - I have a lot to learn. I didn't know diabetes could cause seizures. I'm very sorry about your eye. Are you going to have the growth removed? I once developed what is called Diabetic Lens Osmosis - the vision in both my eyes became extremely blurry and it was due to high blood sugar. The only cure was to get my sugar under control. I did, but it took about a month. Meanwhile, I had to have special very strong glasses made, which enabled me to see clearly while waiting for the condition to go away. The cause was having gone on vacation and stuffing myself with desserts every night after supper. My own fault, as usual. Also, I love pasta but you know what that does to a diabetic. My physician tells me even the wheat pasta is something I shouldn't have.

A couple of "free foods" I know of are mushrooms and onions. I love them both, but a person can't exist on just that, LOL.

Do you use Splenda? I think that's the best thing to come along for diabetics in years. I wish they could make a confectioner's-type Splenda as I used to love confectioner's sugar. Plus I've been a "chocoholic" since I was a little kid! Life is definitely NOT FAIR.

Back to the PMR - have a doctor check your sed rate. I was told the normal inflammation rate is 20-30 - mine was 185! The inflammation is what causes the pain. Oh dear, I think your question about that was in another post, sorry. But it's worth it to have it checked.

Once again, good luck. And please let me know when you get more information regarding your eye.

Although I can't be helpful, knowing nothing about your problem, just wanted to say I'm so sorry you're going through this.

Hope you get some answers soon - not being able to see leaves frustration in the rear-view mirror!

Hi Rosa,

Thank you for giving me more information about the traveling pain. I will talk to my doc about it.

About my eye, they cannot take out the growth without taking out my eye. The back of my eye is not closed. It is an extension of my eye. Cancer runs in my family. It could be a tumor, but whatever it is, my opthamologist is really worried. If they have to operate, they will have to take out my eye completely. If the eye was completely closed and this came from it, they could just take it out. But it is a part of my eye.

I do not think it is cancer though. I have had it for 14 years now. If it was cancer, I would be dead by now. It has been growing though.

I do not use Splenda. It might be in my diet 7-Up that I drink, I do not know. I love chocolate too. My husband does not buy it. He does the shopping. We have Salmon twice a week, w/brown rice and vegetables. We also have chicken, taking the skin off. The skin is where the fat is. Maybe, once a month, as a treat we have a yam or a sweet potato. Another food we like is the sauce from the spagetti. My husband and son have the spaghetti, I do not. I have some sauce mixed w/ vegetables and a slice of brown bread.

If you get extra hungry eat a lot of vegetables. Have meat once a day, that is where the triglycerides are at and cholesterol are at. My last A1c was 5.5. My numbers range in the 90-100. I have tried, and succeeded most of the time to keep my numbers low. This should be in your thread.

Isn't it Macular Degeneration, confirm with your doctor.

I believe it is leaking of the small blood vessels in your eye.
The white blood cells or other fighters from your immune system are attacking your eyes.
Need Lutein and Omega 3.
Add Quercetin and Resveratrol for anti-oxidant to protect your eyes from being attacked.
These 2 natural products are best for diabetes was told by a pharmacist.

Hi fiesta,

I'm so very sorry about your eye - I didn't realize it was that serious. But I agree with you that if it were cancerous you'd have known it a long time ago.

I love spaghetti sauce but I never thought of putting it on vegetables, great idea! I could live on veggies. I don't care much for meat - chicken is about my favorite, and good old-fashioned hamburgers. Diabetes is so restrictive.

Does anyone know anything about the insulin pumps? My GP told me they're only for Type I diabetics but I know of a woman about my age who got one put in and she's Type II like me. Any information would be much appreciated.

Hope you all have a great day! It's very humid here in NJ.

Thank you for the info, but it is a growth growing from my eye. I do not have any blood vessels leaking. They checked for that.
