I know most of you are aware of the effect of gastric bypass surgery on diabetic symptoms, but has anyone tried the non-surgical procudure that a Dr. Steven Garner came up with? Instead of surgery, a tube is slid down the throat and esophagus to block off the first 12" of the intestine. The procedure is specifically for diabetics, only type2, I believe, but am not sure about that.

I don't know who Steve Garner is, but gastic sleeve surgery seems to be the latest fad. It's reserved for the morbidly obese (BMI over 40), whether they're diabetic or not, and there seem to be two different kinds - one reversible and one not.

I think I would only use that as a last resort. Many D's have lowered their bgs just by lowering carbs and getting a little exercise. The gastric bypass, sleeve and lap band may work but all come with significant risks and you still have to eat differently after the operation.
