A new champion may now have emerged, though, in the form of the naturally occurring nutritional supplement called carnosine. This is a molecule that was recently shown to prevent formation of numerous reactive metabolites that are formed from glucose and fatty acids. We Have Got the Causes and Effects of Type 2 Diabetes Mixed Up
While browsing the news, I came across the above linked article. The last thing I need right now is another supplement, but this one caught my attention.

Has anyone tried Carnosine?

I don't think it is really that new of a thought. I know smorgan has posted about methylglyoxal several times in the past and I even see a posts back in 2011 by others.

L-carnosine has been mentioned in posts in the forum in the past as far as improving digestion issues and I read a link where they studied it improving cognitive functions in Gulf War soldiers.

I guess the opening line above the article threw me
New research shows high blood-sugar levels could be an effect, not a cause.
. I thought that was what most of us have been thinking all along? I'd still be interested in seeing the ongoing study. I wonder if this is the study the article references? If so, it answers my question of what their definition of controlled BG is and I know why they say controlled diabetics are still having complications..

Sadly, the only studies I trust any more are seeing my own results when I test things...
Cricket......I agree! I seldom TRUST anything I read on medicine, diabetes, etc. Same for anything I read or hear about on Politics.....

I have to take time and find my own 'truth'... and it frequently leads me to different conclusions than what is said or written...

Critical Thinking is becoming a lost art!

I'm taking note of any newfangdangled ideas but I'm going about it with the old fashion way of fasting. The article mentioned blood glucose control several times but says nothing about insulin as a fat storing hormone that keeps a person overweight which is a major contributor type-2 diabetes.

I agree with you on all points here and would add religion and theology to that. I have great faith in God and a healthy skepticism of man.
